One of the best ways to do this is to optimize your site for search engines and in this series, we will discuss everything you need to know to get started with SEO and by following the tips in this series, you can easily add 1,000 visitors to your website in a month. If you have done research on how to increase traffic to your website, you have probably seen everyone talking about "Increase Your SEO" on your site. But, what does it really mean? Seo stands for Search Engine Optimization or how easy it is for Google to find your website. Now there are several different search engines out there. You have things like Bing and Yahoo, Yandex but 90% of searches are done on Google.

So that's what we usually talk about when we say search engines and basically, search engines just go and explore the web to find pages and index them in their catalog. This is very similar to when you had it a book and at the end of the book you have an index where it tells you where everything is located and location. That's pretty much Google and their indexing system also on the web in the cloud. So let's look at an example.

Now, this is a typical search page with results. You can see that this is an ad, this is what is known as a knowledge graph and what it does is it draws results that may be further on the page but because Google thinks it answers the query very well it will be displayed here and down further on the page. Then under all of that, you have organic results. Usually they are about ten organic results on one page and the organic list means that these results are not paid at all.

They appeared on Google because they had done a good job of telling Google that this page was about this special request. Then you have people too ask the area and this only shows that search people will do this topic. Now, actually less than ten percent of people ever click on the next page. If they don't find what they are looking for on the first page they will only adjust their search criteria and that is why Google is added in the 'People Also Asked' area and this is the biggest reason why SEO is very important for your website. These top three organic results, they get more than 70% of all clicks. This first position usually gets the most clicks. Between 35% and 40%. The second will get between 15% and 20% and then the third position will be get around 10%. So, that is why it is very important to ensure that your website is the first on Google. But, how does Google determine what should go to the first page? The biggest factor is relevance.

You want to make sure that your website is exactly what searchers are looking for when they search for Google. Now Google uses more than 200 factors to determine what is relevant in their algorithm and there is no way we will be able to cover it all but if we can concentrate on a few then we have a fighting chance to be seen in search results. Apart from relevance you also want to ensure that your site is useful. All of that means that when users click on your site, the information they are looking for because it's easy to find. Think about the last time you did a search. If you go to a page that you think has the answer but you have difficulty finding it on the page, do you survive? Most people will click back and look for a different answer. So make sure that your site is also useful and you have set the answer to the topic in a meaningful way that makes it easy for readers to find what they are looking for. So there are two main ways you can do SEO on your website and they are called on-page SEO and off-page SEO.
